How to determine impeller size
on Sterling-SIHI hot oil pumps used by CEI
When replacing hot oil pumps, there are two key pieces of information you'll need to know. One, obviously, is the size of the pump. The other is the size of the impeller that is in the pump.
Not all pumps of a given size will have the same size impeller. Depending on the application, the standard size impeller that the pump usually comes with may be too large. If so, the impeller may give too much resistance, resulting in excessive draw, tripping breakers, and likely causing other problems.
In these cases, the factory may trim the impeller to a more suitable size so that the pump will function reliably in its intended application.
This Service & Troubleshooting Guide from the CEI Service Dept shows you how to determine whether or not your Sterling-SIHI hot oil pump has a trimmed impeller, and if so, what size.
