Ingenuity. Inventory. Instant CTB Plant.
Albuquerque, NM (February 27, 2018) — John Berger needed a CTB plant, and he needed it fast.
As General Manager of Vulcan Materials in San Antonio, Texas, John was supplying concrete for a big TXDOT job being done by Webber Construction. They asked if Vulcan could also supply Cement Treated Base.
Finding himself in sudden need of a CTB plant, John called CEI Enterprises. He asked a simple question:
"How fast can you get me a portable CTB plant?"
CEI engineers had not yet designed a CTB plant, and Vulcan didn't have time to wait. What CEI did have was some used equipment, including an Astec self-erecting cement silo, a control house and an auger.
With a little modification, CEI combined these with a used KPI model 52s portable pugmill. Dana Ratliff, Dan Wood and Gabriel Reyes from CEI went to San Antonio to set up the plant. Ratliff installed the Jonel controls on-site, and the plant was operational in less than a week.
The portable pugmill has 2 integral bins and a conveyor. Manufactured sand from the bins is fed into the elevated pugmill. Cement is transferred from the silo to the pugmill by the auger. Water is added, and the pugmill mixes the CTB before discharging it into trucks below.
Production rate is over 200 yards per hour.
